مبارزه تمکین ناپذیر شما برای آزادی و دموکراسی در کشورتان، الگوی الهام بخشی برای همه دوستداران و مبارزین راه آزادی در سرتاسر دنیا گشته است. برانگیزه تر از آن، مشاهده دلگرم کننده به ثمر نشستن اصلاحات سیاسی در کشور شما، برمه، است. ما با شما در ارزش هایی نظیر احترام به حقوق انسانی برای همه مردم با نژاد‌ها و مذاهب مختلف، که در طول مبارزه به آنها تعهد سپرده و از آنان پشتیبانی نموده اید، شریک هستیم.
همانطور که ما در ایران تجربه کرده ایم، در مرحله گذار به دموکراسی، رهبران اصلاحات دربرابر آزمون بزرگی قرار می گیرند. آنها ممکن است با تمرکز بر یکی از ارزشهای بسیار مطلوب دموکراسی، یعنی انتخابات آزاد، ارزشهای دیگری نظیر رعایت حقوق و شرافت انسانی اقلیت های مذهبی را کمتر مورد توجه قرار دهند. دراینصورت، دموکراسی نوپای پدید آمده، با خطر واژگونی و انحلال روبرو گردیده و زمینه بازگشت نظام دیکتاتوری فراهم می گردد.
شما به گونه تحسین برانگیزی مردم برمه را مردمی با نژاد‌ها و علائق گوناگون توصیف نموده و آنهارا خواهران و برادران یک فامیل دانسته اید. من از شما درخواست می کنم به افزایش خشونت در مقابل اقلیت مسلمان کشور خود، که عضوی از خانواده بزرگ برمه می باشند، توجه بیشتری مبذول نمائید. این خشونت و تحریک توسط کسانی صورت می‌گیرد که ادعا می کنند از طرف شما سخن گفته و اکثریت را نمایندگی می نمایند. من اطمینان دارم که شما از این خشونت آگاه هستید. برای ما که در کشورهایی با اکثریت مسلمان زندگی می‌کنیم، پرده ضخیمی از نگرانی، برامیدمان برای آزادی و دموکراسی در برمه، خیمه زده است.
شما شجاعت آنرا داشته اید که درستی و حقیقت را در مقابل مردان قدرت کشورتان فریاد زنید. آیا همان شجاعت را خواهید داشت که در مقابل این نیروی جدید که به نام اکثریت، تعصب و خشونت را بر اقلیت مسلمان کشورتان اعمال می کند، ایستادگی نموده و از حقوق انسانی آنها دفاع کنید؟
این نیرو که توسط سیاستمداران بی پروا و بی توجه به حقوق انسانی مردم شکل گرفته است، بدون شک به دموکراسی نوپای برمه صدمه خواهد زد. من از شما درخواست می کنم در مقابل این نیروی خشونت آفرین ایستادگی کنید. مقاومت شما در مقابل این گروه و دفاع از حقوق اقلیت ها، نه تنها جان بی شماری از مسلمانان، بودایی ها و دیگر اقلیت ها را از مرگ نجات می دهد، بلکه آرزوی بر پایی یک دموکراسی پا بر جا را نیز در برمه تحقق می بخشد.

Ebrahim Yazdi’s Letter To Burmese Leader
The secretary general of the Freedom Movement of Iran, Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi to the Burmese leader, Mrs.Aung San Suu Kyi: You have spoken lovingly of Burma’s diverse peoples as “siblings from a single family”. I appeal to you to pay closer attention to the increasingly brutal violence against a small minority within your family, Burmese Muslims. These acts and incitements are perpetrated by groups and individuals claiming to speak for you, as a member of the majority.

Your uncompromising struggle for freedom and democracy in your country has been an inspiration to freedom-loving Iranians and freedom fighter throughout the world. It is even more inspiring to see encouraging signs from Burma that your efforts at political reform are bringing fruit. We share the values you have championed during the long years of struggle, most of all respect for the human rights of peoples of all ethnic and religious communities. As we experienced in Iran, periods of political transition put reform leaders to the test. Leaders may be focused on the realization of one cherished value, such as free elections, while other values, such as respect for the rights and dignity of religious minorities, receive less attention. When this happens, a fledgling democracy is put at great peril and the seeds of reemergence of dictatorship are sown. You have spoken lovingly of Burma’s diverse peoples as “siblings from a single family”. I appeal to you to pay closer attention to the increasingly brutal violence against a small minority within your family, Burmese Muslims. These acts and incitements are perpetrated by groups and individuals claiming to speak for you, as a member of the majority. I am sure you are familiar with the heart rending details. For many of us in Muslim-majority countries that support your values, a pall of fear for Burma has appeared where there was a great deal of hope. You have shown courage in speaking the truth to powerful men. Will you now show the same courage to speak up against a new powerful force in your country, that of ethnic and religious bigotry in the name of the majority? This is a force that will no doubt be wielded by unscrupulous politicians who would undermine all you have fought for. I appeal to you to stand up to them. In doing so, you will save
the lives of countless Burmese Muslims, Buddhists, and other ethnic groups, and you may also be saving the dream of a democratic and free Burma.
